ANAVILA | PRE-FESTIVE 2023

Saar explored the language of colour through the Rajput School of Miniature Painting, where contrasting hues come together to create harmony. The textile development looked at how much expression could be created through a simple loom setting and plain weave, working with linen saris in monochromatic palettes interrupted by irregular streaks of colour. The restraint of the weave made small changes in colour placement particularly visible, turning the yarn itself into the main visual element. Exploring these variations through sampling brought a deeper understanding of how colour can create rhythm and movement without relying on elaborate structures or surface techniques.

SAAR | ANAVILA | PRE-FESTIVE'23 Saar speaks of the meeting of colours. In the Rajput school of miniature painting, colour was built slowly, through a process of layering and mixing. A central idea began as a charcoal drawing, followed by a fine lime wash that prepared the surface, before layers of colour were carefully added by different hands. Much like a design studio, where an idea moves from one hand to another, the miniature atelier was a place of shared making. This interplay of colour forms the heart of Saar. The collection looks to the lush forests of Bundi, as imagined in miniature paintings, where birds, animals and abundant flora fill the landscape. Through intricate appliqué and embroidery, these fragments of the forest find their way onto saris and ensembles, bringing together colour, craft and the quiet beauty of a world painted long ago.
